초록
Jane Austen's heroine, Fanny Price, had a very clear identity. Her situation, in her aunt's home (the patriarchal Bertrams), was unpleasant and she appeared very passive and weak in her outer appearance. However, she possessed the qualities of a very strong mind, integrity, firm opinions, insight, and morals within herself. Her obvious identity was displayed in her morals. She exhibited her identity through her morals, language, and view of marriage. Above all, her moral subjectivity was presented by her thoughts of marriage. She desired to marry the man she could love and respect in spite of the common way of thinking which existed in that era. Fanny was able to maintain her steady and free spirit regarding her sense and sensibility. She attempted to advocate human rights by resisting the patriarchal society through her powerless and lonely conditions. Fanny's way of life, which truly respected herself as a human being, accurately portrayed Austen's ideal heroine.
