초록
Kierkegaard rejects Hegel's philosophical system because subject of Hegel is too abstract to contain the concept of individual being. Kierkegaard's subject is based on religious and theological subject based on the relationship with God. On the other hand, Emmanuel Levinas asserts that subject can be understood in relation to the other. According to Levinas, a legitimate understanding of subject can be obtained by the face of the other, which is a trace of transcendental Other. Whereas Levinas argues that an authentic subjectivity is realized by the relationship with the other, Kierkegaard asserts that it is rooted in the relationship with God. For Kierkegaard, a God-relationship is the most important factor to motivate loving other(neighbors). Though Levinas and Kierkegaard agree that there is a threefold structure between the other and the subject, what they disagree is on the nature of the second ontological mediation. Kierkegaard insists that it is God who is always the middle term between me and my neighbor, while Levinas argues that it is always the neighbor who is the middle term between me and God.
