초록

Jeongsub NamThis paper analyzes the narrative strategy and inter-subjectivity of Maxine Hong Kingston's quasi-autobiographical work, The Woman Warrior. Since it is composed of stories collectively inherited from and told by Chinese/Asian Americans, and its autobiographical authority based on individualism is denied by its very author, inter-subjectivity is able to determine its uniqueness, giving its readers room for searching for the unconscious desire of the subject speaking in the in-between space called inter-subjectivity.Kingston's narrative strategy, which engages singular subject 'I' on the surface, smartly brings up the desire of the unconsciously speaking subject, which is the subject of psychoanalysis, in order to argue that her subject is that of inter-subjectivity. By doing this, she could demonstrate the power of the speaking subject who can socially reclaim an appropriate status for Chinese/Asian Americans as a group and ontologically proclaim the subjectivity of the socially alienated subjects.
