초록

This study investigates the influence of parents’ media education experiences and their perceptions of children’s media use on children's media education practices. Drawing on data from the Korea Press Foundation’s “2023 Children’s Media Use Survey,” the research aims to empirically examine the pathways through which parental media education may impact the way parents guide their children's media use. The first analysis, based on independent samples t-tests, revealed no statistically significant differences in parents’ understanding of children's media use between those with and without general media education experience. However, parents with such educational experience were more likely to recognize potential negative impacts of children’s media use and reported higher appreciation for children’s voluntary media self-regulation. Furthermore, those who received both general media education and child-focused media education were more engaged in their children’s media use than other groups.
