초록
This study examines the psychological burden experienced by linguists who research sensitive language data, such as hate speech, discriminatory expressions, and profanity. Through semi-structured interviews with five linguists who have conducted research on sensitive topics, this study employs discursive psychology to analyze how researchers construct and express their psychological experiences. The findings reveal that researchers experience various forms of psychological distress, ranging from mild discomfort to severe mental strain, which can manifest as physical symptoms and lead to a cynical worldview. Notably, prolonged exposure to sensitive data often results a loss of affection for research subjects and a diminished sense of mission toward their research. The severity of the psychological burden varies depending on factors such as research duration, data volume, and project scale, with researchers in large-scale projects reporting heightened stress levels. Despite growing academic interest in hate speech and discrimination, there is a notable lack of institutional support for researchers studying these topics.
