초록
In the wake of World War II, known by the Soviets as the Great Patriotic War, Central Asia was quickly transformed into a home front. Uzbekistan was no exception with more than a hundred factories and industrial complexes from near the Nazi-occupied regions relocated to it and thousands of refugees from the Eastern European frontline arriving to its capital, Tashkent, on a daily basis. This paper explores localization of Soviet war propaganda that contributed greatly to the consolidation of Uzbekistan and other Central Asian republics to the Soviet Union. The localized propaganda ultimately led to indigenization of the Soviet motherland into an Uzbek fatherland. This paper focuses primarily on how the duties and obligations of the Uzbek "home front" were emphasized in the war propaganda produced and circulated locally for the Uzbek population. In so doing, it addresses the "home front" identity that shaped the Uzbek historiography and memory of the war during and after the Soviet period.
