초록

North Korean women’s human rights are severely infringed under the DPRK’s brutal dictatorship. There are typical examples such as domestic violence, sexual harassment, discrimination in wages, occupation, promotions etc. and a restriction on women’s public life. Generally speaking, reasons for North Korean women’s human rights violations are as follows; financial difficulties and lack of care for women, deep-rooted idea that men are superior to women and the widespread patriarchal system, outmoded social customs and traditions that require unconditional modesty and obedience among women, absence of educations in women’s human rights, insufficiency of social, legal and institutional sanctions against violence to women, inflexible thinking about sexual morality and lack of well-organized sex educations, unsatisfactory enforcement of laws and regulations for the protection of women’s labor, institutional inertia of social welfare laws and delivery systems for women. Based upon above considerations, NGOs for North Korean human rights should collect data and information as to infringements of women’s human rights in North Korea.
