초록
This study empirically investigates the effects of Generation Z’s social media use on Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and irrational dining-out consumption behaviors, specifically conformity, conspicuous, and impulsive consumption. To achieve this objective, a survey was conducted among 350 Korean Generation Z consumers who had actively used social media for at least three months, with all 350 valid responses analyzed. The analysis indicated that social media use had a significant positive effect on FoMO. Additionally, FoMO significantly and positively influenced conformity, conspicuousness, and impulsiveness in dining-out behaviors.
 Social media use also had direct significant effects on these three consumption behaviors. Furthermore, the indirect effects of FoMO in the relationship between social media use and irrational dining-out behaviors were all significant, clearly identifying the psychological mechanism by which social media induces irrational dining-out consumption behaviors through FoMO.
