초록

One of the major concerns in the field of reading programs in foreign language education is motivating learners to read. Most adolescent and adult students do not read books in English. In contrast, empirical research suggests that younger students can develop positive attitudes toward reading at an early age. Thus, this paper suggests reading programs for children to develop motivation in reading in elementary English classes. Reading Aloud and Self-selected Reading programs are emphasized. Concretely, it is suggested that children be provided an abundance of interesting and easy books in the class for frequent access to books and self-initiated reading.
