초록
The purpose of this study is to examine why fantasy for children evokes pleasure, on the basis of child-readers’ responses. We conducted content analysis by using the pleasure responses of 177 child-readers who read four fantasy for children works. The results showed that the child-readers responded in two of the following ways ‘reponse to descriptions’ and ‘response to thought and feeling’. They responded to descriptions when the text itself evoked a pleasurable response (e.g. during funny events or when animals communicated with people). The response to thought and feeling occurred at the climax of a story. During the climax the child-readers felt sympathy toward the characters and experienced pleasure in the atmosphere of the chronotope. The results provide support for the use of reading education by teachers, and can be used by writers attempting to compose fantasy for children.
