This study aims to explore the differences in utilizing textual metadiscourses in the translated Letters to Shareholders (from Korean into English) and their non-translated counterparts (originally written in English). Textual metadiscourse is an umbrella term for various linguistic resources that a writer uses to help his/her readers understand and interpret the text in a way that the writer intends. The analysis of textual metadiscourses in the translations and non-translations showed that relatively more comparison transitions were used in non-translations, while more addition transitions were used in translations. Translations tend to use frame markers to propose strategies or plans for the coming years, while non-translations tend to use them to report the company's performance of the previous year. Code glosses showed a relatively big difference in the two sets of the texts. Non-translations were found to use more of reformulation code glosses than translations, which could be explained in line with different writing practices in the two cultures.
